When Laser Whitening is Better Than Bleaching Trays
Here we are going to look at the difference between the two whitening systems and discuss the pros and cons to hopefully help you make a decision on what to choose.
Essentially the two systems work but there are practical issues to be assessed before you making a decision on enhancing your smile.
Having a white smile is only a good thing as this can take years off your age and enhance your smile to make you look healthier and more attractive as the lighter smile will signal a warming charming smile!
Many of the dentists across the world offer the bleaching trays as way of whitening the teeth and these do work but sometimes there are some issues which are not always made obvious to anyone considering them.
The first thing to discuss is the placement of the trays in the mouth for fourteen consecutive nights whilst you sleep yes sleep. Now for me putting something in the mouth will inevitably change my sleep so my desire for whiter teeth is offset by my need for uninterrupted sleep!
In some cases the dentist will suggest using a higher strength peroxide but needing the trays to be worn twice per day for two hours at a time and again this does have practical drawbacks particularly if you work as you need to be arrange your day around having the trays in the mouth. Two hours at a time also will be quite uncomfortable and you can build up large amounts of saliva in the mouth which is not pleasant!
If you can get through the wearing of the trays then this is probably the biggest hurdle but here comes the next part.
Having a build up of sensitivity is almost inevitable as the peroxide will stay in the pores of the enamel for the fourteen days and nights and at some point will cause the teeth to be sensitive.
Now if the sensitivity builds up too much this will become too painful and this will result in the trays stop from being used just at the point they are working effectively to whiten the teeth. But we have to pragmatic and realistic so if this does happen then wait a few days for the pain to subside and then use a week or so later and this will remove further staining without getting too much sensitivity.
The last potential issue is staying away from staining items for the fourteen days this will re-stain the teeth as the teeth are more porous during this time. Avoiding things like tea, coffee, cola, soya sauce, beetroot to name just a few.
With laser whitening the treatment takes just one hour and requires just one session and the light increases the speed of the peroxide gel whitening the teeth. Also for 48 hours after the laser method you need to be careful about what you are coming in to contact with but for 48 hours people can normally sacrifice a cup of coffee or tea and stick to drinking water or milk.
Lastly the teeth can get sensitive with the laser but not as bad as the trays as the treatment program time is considerably less time.
