Can a transmission go out all of a sudden in a car with no warning?
My car has been acting FINE lately. Nothing wrong with it at all. (99 Cavalier)
Then yesterday morning I was going to go somewhere and my car will not move at all! It starts up and runs fine. NO problem there.
The thing is, it will not shift out of park. It is an automatic. You can move the shifter fine but it will not shift and will not even try to move. When I push on the gas it just revs up. What could it be?
Yes the transmission can fail suddenly and without making warning. If it wont shift out of park, as in you cant push the car to move it, then the problem could be the shift cable has come loose from the shift lever or the transmission. Raise the hood and look at the rear of the engine on the drivers side. You should see the trans shift cable attached to an arm the goes into the tranny. The cable maybe disconnected there>
